The Big Idea
The Taurus story began when Bernard Hack left his job to become an Import Consultant.
Customs Consultants Formed
By 1984 his clients were also asking for a Customs Brokerage service and coincidentally he was approached by a broker wishing to work in his business, as a result in November 1984 Customs Consultants Ltd was formed.
Building Taurus
The international freight forwarding business was another coincidence when the New Zealand agent for an American forwarder literally walked off the street and asked whether Customs Consultants would be interested in representing them in the south island. Bernard had been considering this for some time so he jumped at the chance to provide a total door-to-door service for his clients.
Growing Up
From there the company went from strength to strength, until our global agent came under new Management, and terminated our agreement. As it turned out, as one door closed an even better door opened, Custom Consultants started establishing their own agents around the world and gradually refocused the business to specialise in dealing with “difficult cargo” like yachts, container side-lifters, earthmoving equipment, and more.
Richard Joins
Bernard’s son Richard re-joined the business with new skills and refreshing new ideas. Soon after the company was rebranded to Taurus Logistics. He made such an impact on the company that he is now managing the business.
Australia Office Opened
Opening our very own office in Melbourne is one of the most exciting developments to happen to Taurus Logistics. Whilst we have had a strong presence in Australia since 2004, we subcontracted the local Customs and Department of Agriculture formalities to an agent. This worked well initially, but eventually, we discovered that we could not deliver the same level of service that our Customers enjoyed without having our own office. So in 2011, we established Taurus Logistics Australia Pty Ltd based in central Melbourne. Since then we have not looked back.
40 Years Strong
2024 marks our 40th Anniversary. Whilst our business has changed considerably over that time, we are proud to still be serving some of our original customers who helped us start this business. We thank you for your support throughout the years and look forward to continuing to earn the opportunity to work with you each and every day.
